Adults and Teens
Beginning of Class
Ma'am/Sir: I will practice in the spirit of Tae Kwon Do, with courtesy to fellow students, loyalty to my instructor, and respect for my juniors and seniors, Ma'am/Sir.
Adults and Teens
End of Class
Ma'am/Sir: I shall live with perseverance in the spirit of Tae Kwon Do, having honor to others, integrity within myself, and self-control in my actions, Ma'am/Sir.
ATA Karate Kids
Ma'am/Sir: Each day I will live by honoring my parents and instructors, practicing to the best of my abilities, and by having courtesy and respect for everyone I meet, Ma'am/Sir.
ATA Tiny Tigers
Ma'am/Sir: I promise to be a good person, with knowledge in my head, honesty in my heart, strength in my body, to make good friends. And work hard so one day I can be a Black Belt, Ma'am/Sir.

FORM: SOGAHM 1, COMPLETE
LIFE SKILL: COMMUNICATION
Requirements to be fulfilled before being invited to test:
Students must earn 4 stripes on their belt.
1st stripe: Technique
-
Round kick: demonstrate chamber-extension-rechamber
-
Hand technique: reaction force hand always to the same position with equal force
-
High block, low block, inner forearm block: clear forearm rotation at the end
-
Side kick
-
pivot timed with extension
-
strength to hold extension for 2 seconds.
-
2nd stripe: Form
-
Timing: feet and hands end together.
-
Strong yells while doing both side kicks
-
Be able to perform entire form without prompting
-
Perform the entire form with rhythm and phrasing.
3rd stripe: Parents’ Stripe
A task set up parents for the student to complete on their own for 5 days in a row without being reminded. Students will be allowed to test without this stripe bit will not receive the new belt if they pass.
4th stripe: Fitness
-
Be able to do 25 round kicks per leg with full extension, while holding onto a chair/bar
-
Be able to do 5 push-up prep: starting with arms fully extended, lowering down slowly, and hovering for 2 seconds before relaxing
At Testing, students will be tested on the above material as well as the following:
Sparring Drills
-
Quick half-steps (no shuffle step) forward and back in two diagonal lines with a quick counter punch before returning to original position
-
Different sets of 4-count footwork.
Self Defense
-
Review step back-turtle-palm heel strikes
-
combatives.

FORM: SOGAHM 1
LIFESKILL: BELIEF
Requirements to be fulfilled before being invited to test:
Students must earn 4 stripes on their belt.
1st stripe: Technique

Front kick: demonstrate chamber-extension-rechamber

Stances: demonstrate front stance (front knee bent, back knee straight) and middle stance (feet about double shoulder width, weight distributed evenly.)

Fists: fingers curled tight, placement of thumb
-
Hight block
-
beginning position: by the waist
-
trajectory: go across the body
-
ending position: higher than the head and away from the forehead
-

Side kick
-
standing foot pivoted: heel pointing to target
-
kicking leg
-
chamber knee slightly higher than foot
-
trajectory: heel pushing out in a straight line.
-
note: do not kick high at this time.

2nd stripe: Form
Be able to do the first 9 moves of the form, Songahm 1, as instructor calls out the move. Memorization not necessary.
3rd stripe: Parents’ Stripe

4th stripe: Attendance
Student has to attend at least 10 classes to be eligible to test.
At Testing, students will be tested on the above material as well as the following:
Sparring Drills

foot work: move led by leg closest to direction. No shuffling.

hands: 4 defense zones as called out by number and as reaction from instructor “attacking” with foam stick.
Self Defense
-
Step back, hands open up by face, steady gaze, strong voice: “Step back!”
-
“Turtle” if necessary: cover head with elbows hugging head tight.
